Apprentice Shipwright

Description

Matthew and Williams Boatworks is a wooden boat repair shop located on the Lake Washington Ship Canal in Seattle. We are looking for a new crew member who shares our mission of preserving wooden boats through skilled craftsmanship.

We are currently seeking an apprentice shipwright ($23–$30/hour). Our ideal candidate would have a strong background in woodworking looking to develop their skills in traditional boat repair in order to become a professional shipwright. In an apprentice role, you would apply your skills under the direction of a shipwright to work and assist on a large variety of projects such as hull and structural repairs on historical vessels, interior cabinetry, and high-end boat furnishings on boats of all sizes.

Joining our shop means joining a community centered on the rich maritime heritage in the Pacific Northwest. We work on a variety of vessels, from classic yachts to working boats, which means every project is a unique chance to practice both traditional and modern boat repair skills. Our shop sits on the water with dock space for the boats we work on, and our team provides the full scope of vessel needs including painting, electrical, and welding/fabrication.

This position can start part-time, with the opportunity to move to full-time as fit and skills develop.

Prior professional experience and/or education in woodworking is required. A willingness to learn, keen eye for detail, and tool proficiency are essential.

To apply, please respond to this ad by email with:
-A brief introduction and description of your experience
-A resume
-A portfolio or photos of past work.
Responses that do not include the three above listed items will be ignored.
