Architectural Metal Shop Manager

Santa Rosa based General Contractor is seeking Architectural Metal Shop Manager / Lead Fabricator
Location: Shop / Office / Job Sites
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM

We are seeking an experienced Architectural Metal Shop Manager to oversee daily shop operations, manage fabrication crews, and ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. This hands-on leadership role requires strong knowledge of custom metal fabrication, shop workflow, team management, and construction coordination.
The ideal candidate can lead by example, fabricate when needed, solve problems quickly, and keep multiple projects moving efficiently from drawings to installation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Shop Operations & Production
-Manage daily workflow of the metal fabrication shop
-Schedule labor, equipment, and materials to meet deadlines
-Oversee fabrication of flashings, sheet metal projects, ornamental facades, stairs railings/ guardrails, gates, structural steel, and custom assemblies
-Maintain production efficiency and shop organization
-Coordinate deliveries, receiving, inventory, and material handling
-Project estimation and budgeting

2. Leadership & Team Management
-Supervise welders, fabricators, and shop staff
-Train employees on shop procedures, safety, and fabrication standards
-Hold team accountable for productivity, attendance, and quality
-Assist with hiring and performance reviews

3. Project Management
-Review/ create shop drawings, plans, and specifications
-Coordinate with project managers, field installers, vendors, and customers
-Track project progress and communicate scheduling updates
-Identify production issues early and provide solutions

4. Quality & Safety
-Ensure all work meets company quality standards and customer expectations
-Maintain safe shop operations and OSHA compliance
-Inspect finished products before shipment or installation

5. Estimating & Planning
-Assist with takeoffs, labor estimates, and material forecasting
-Order materials and specialty hardware as needed
-Help improve shop systems and production processes

Qualifications:
-10+ years experience in metal fabrication or architectural metals
-2+ years in leadership or shop supervision preferred
-Strong blueprint reading and shop drawing interpretation
-MIG / TIG / FCAW welding knowledge
-Experience with structural steel, stainless, aluminum, and ornamental metals
-Knowledge of fabrication equipment: saws, brakes, shears, ironworkers, welders, forklifts, etc.
-Strong communication and organizational skills
-Ability to multitask and lead multiple projects at once

Preferred Skills:
-Sheet metal folders, shears and press brake experience
-Field installation knowledge
-Estimating experience
-Lean manufacturing or workflow improvement mindset
-Ability to create shop drawings/ CAD experience
