Artist Internship Stone & Plaster

This is a paid Internship. Aria Custom Design is looking for an artistically talented student to join Aria as an intern to assist and learn the specialized crafts of architectural stone sculpture, artistic Venetian plaster finishes and modern plaster artistry. Aria owner and artist has developed a unique and proprietary sculpturing process, has created and continues to create numerous custom Venetian plaster techniques and finishes, specialized wall treatment in various materials related to venetian plastering. The intern will learn this sculpting, carving and shaping process, working alongside Aria owner/artist in Aria's Atelier at our Denver showroom location.
This Internship could lead to an apprenticeship and a full time position with a company having a 22 year history of fine work.

What You Will Learn:

Sculpting floral and scrollwork designs in the Aria process of shaping architectural limestone
Working with stone by hand and developing an understanding of its character and behavior
Creating custom architectural form and detail
Surface and material preparation
Traditional and contemporary plaster techniques
Venetian plaster and other specialty plaster finishes
Developing depth, movement, texture, and variation within a plaster surface
Proper use and care of hand tools and specialty tools
How different materials interact with light, architecture, and surrounding surfaces
The standards of craftsmanship required for high-end custom residential and commercial work

Good hand skills and attention to detail
Patience, curiosity, and a willingness to learn
A background and interest in—sculpture, ceramics, architecture, design, or related arts

No previous experience with stone or plaster is required. We are looking for artistic ability, enthusiasm, and the desire to learn a highly specialized craft.

Employment: Full-time/Part-time
Compensation: $22.00/hour
