Asbestos Technician

Description

Asbestos Technician (asbestos abatement technician) is a professional trained to identify, safely remove, and dispose of asbestos-containing materials in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role is critical in construction, renovation, demolition, and restoration projects where asbestos may be present

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identification & Inspection: Inspect building materials to detect asbestos presence and assess hazards
  • Removal & Abatement: Perform safe asbestos removal using containment procedures, negative pressure enclosures, and encapsulation techniques
  • Containment & Cleanup: Seal off work areas to prevent contamination and clean up after abatement
  • Air Quality Testing: Monitor air quality to ensure asbestos fibers are not released during work
  • Regulatory Compliance: Follow OSHA, EPA, and local asbestos abatement guidelines

Required Qualifications:

- Certifications: OSHA/EPA asbestos abatement certification; completion of an accredited asbestos abatement training program, OSHA 10, fit test

Experience: Minimum 2 years in asbestos abatement, preferably in both commercial and residential settings with friable or non-friable asbestos.

Skills: Ability to lift heavy equipment, follow strict safety protocols, and work independently or as part of a team

  • Proficiency with PPE (personal protective equipment) and hazardous materials handling
