Overview
Michael’s Paving is hiring an experienced Asphalt Foreman to lead the day-to-day field execution of our residential and commercial paving projects.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone with strong asphalt paving experience who can direct a crew, maintain quality and safety standards, solve problems in the field, and keep projects moving efficiently throughout the day.
The foreman is responsible for executing the job plan provided by management and taking ownership of field operations from morning preparation through final job closeout.
Responsibilities
- Review the day’s job information, scope, addresses, materials, and special instructions before departure.
- Confirm required tools, equipment, fuel, and supplies are ready before the crew leaves the shop.
- Brief and direct the crew according to the planned job sequence and established roles.
- Verify job site conditions, safely stage equipment, and supervise unloading and setup.
- Oversee job preparation, including milling, grading, base preparation, compaction, edges, and cleanup as required.
- Confirm the site is properly prepared before asphalt is ordered or paving begins.
- Coordinate asphalt and material ordering and help prevent delays by planning ahead.
- Lead paving operations and coordinate operators, laborers, truck drivers, and other crew members.
- Monitor asphalt depth, drainage, transitions, rolling, handwork, and overall workmanship.
- Maintain job site safety and correct quality or workflow issues as they occur.
- Handle routine field problems and escalate major safety, equipment, property damage, or scope-related issues to management.
- Complete final job inspections, customer check-ins, required photos, cleanup, and safe equipment load-out.
- Previous asphalt paving experience is required.
- Previous experience leading an asphalt paving or construction crew is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of asphalt preparation, grading, drainage, paving, compaction, and finishing.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to recognize quality issues and make sound field decisions.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Comfortable working outdoors in heat and varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable working long or variable construction days when required.
- Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced paving environment.
- Previous asphalt foreman or crew leader experience.
- Experience operating asphalt paving and construction equipment.
