Asphalt Laborer

Description

The Asphalt Laborer is responsible for tasks related to paving and pavement maintenance. This role involves physical labor, routine repair and maintenance of equipment, and adherence to safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will contribute to the successful execution of asphalt-related projects while ensuring a clean and hazard-free job site.

  • Prepare surfaces by using a push blower and/or wire broom to clean areas before applying seal coat or crack fill material.
  • Utilize an asphalt crack router to open surface cracks in preparation for filling.
  • Apply crack fill material using a crack seal kettle and wand.
  • Apply seal coat material with a long-handled squeegee and/or spray wand.
  • Perform manual labor tasks such as shoveling, sweeping, and raking.
  • Operate equipment, including skid steers or highway brooms, if certified.
  • Support asphalt paving, patching, and prep crews with general labor tasks.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment, performing routine repairs as needed.
  • Signal construction equipment operators to facilitate proper alignment and material movement.
  • Set up, move, and dismantle traffic control devices, such as signs, barricades, and cones.
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site by securing tools and equipment daily.
  • Load equipment and materials onto trucks at the end of the day or project, if certified.
  • Assist in directing and training helpers and in loading/unloading materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Operate motor vehicles, such as pickup trucks or automobiles, in connection with job duties if required.
  • Keep simple records and prepare reports documenting time, completed assignments, delivery locations, materials hauled, and related data.
  • Adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, including wearing hard hats, safety vests, and protective eyewear.
  • Follow established safety procedures and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Stay hydrated and adhere to the Heat Prevention Policy, ensuring readiness for work in hot conditions.
  • Enter data into automated or computer-based work management systems as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
