Asphalt Paver Operator at Michael’s Paving

Overview

Michael’s Paving is hiring an experienced Asphalt Paver Operator to join our paving crew in Aston, Pennsylvania. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating asphalt paving equipment while helping ensure smooth, consistent, high-quality results on residential and commercial projects.

We are looking for someone with prior asphalt paver operating experience who is dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working as part of a fast-paced paving crew. Experience with LeeBoy equipment is preferred, but experience operating comparable asphalt pavers will also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate asphalt pavers during residential and commercial paving projects.
• Perform pre-operation equipment checks and identify any mechanical, control, or safety issues before paving begins.
• Prepare and set up the paver before paving, including proper screed setup, heating, greasing, and lubrication as required.
• Maintain proper paving speed, alignment, depth, grade, and material flow throughout each job.
• Monitor mat thickness, asphalt buildup, material distribution, and overall paving quality while operating.
• Make gradual screed and depth adjustments as needed to maintain a smooth, consistent asphalt mat.
• Coordinate safely with truck drivers, laborers, roller operators, and other crew members to maintain a steady paving operation.
• Follow the foreman’s direction regarding paving approach, job site conditions, slopes, transitions, and other field adjustments.
• Stop work and notify the foreman of unsafe conditions, equipment problems, or paving concerns when necessary.
• Assist the crew with job preparation as needed before paving begins.
• Clean the hopper, screed, and paver after paving and help ensure the machine is properly prepared for transport.
• Safely load, unload, position, and assist with securing the paver as needed.
• Communicate equipment issues, paving concerns, or job site problems to the foreman.

Preferred but Not Required

• Experience operating LeeBoy pavers, particularly the 8500 or 1000 series.
• Experience operating rollers, skid steers, or other asphalt and construction equipment.
• CDL or experience transporting construction equipment.

Experience & Requirements

• Previous hands-on experience operating an asphalt paver is required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Strong understanding of asphalt paving operations, screed setup, depth control, and job site safety.
• Ability to work outdoors in heat and varying weather conditions.
• Comfortable working long or variable construction days when required.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a crew.
• Able to work in a fast-paced paving environment while maintaining attention to quality and safety.
