Assistant Finisher — Custom Fabrication Studio (Red Hook, Brooklyn)

The New Motor is a custom architectural millwork and metal fabrication studio in Red Hook, Brooklyn. We design, engineer, build, and install high-end custom millwork and metalwork for architects, designers, brands, and general contractors. We don't cut corners — we bring serious attention to detail and stand behind everything we make.

We're looking for an Assistant Finisher to support our finishing department. This is a great role for someone early in their trade who wants to learn finishing inside and out — we'll train the right person.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Support our finishers on wood and metal pieces from prep through final coat
Sand, prep, mask, and clean parts for finishing
Mix, sample, and help apply stains, paints, clears, patinas, and specialty finishes
Keep the finishing area, booth, and equipment clean and organized
Make and label finish samples for approval
Help move and stage parts and assist the shop as needed

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Some hands-on experience with finishing, painting, auto body, or careful shop/craft work is a plus — but attitude and reliability matter most
Careful, patient, and detail-oriented (finishing is where the details show)
Willing to learn and take direction
Able to lift 50+ lbs and work on your feet in a shop environment
Comfortable working around finishing chemicals with proper PPE
