Experienced Audio Video Installer / Commissioning Technician — Independent Contractor

Location:** San Diego County — Onsite at project locations

Contract Type:** Project-Based Independent Contractor (1099)
Compensation:** Based on experience and agreed project scope

**About the Opportunity**

We are seeking an experienced Audio Video Installers who can install, configure, test, and commission commercial AV systems. We are looking for a reliable independent contractor for individual projects, with opportunities for repeat engagements as projects become available.

The ideal contractor takes pride in clean installations, troubleshoots effectively, and delivers systems that are fully operational and ready for customer use.

**Project Responsibilities**

• Install displays, interactive panels, projectors, speakers, microphones, equipment racks, and AV control systems.
• Install, terminate, label, and test AV and low-voltage cabling.
• Configure and commission AV equipment, including firmware updates, device settings, signal routing, and system functionality.
• Troubleshoot audio, video, control, and connectivity issues.
• Read drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, and project scopes.
• Coordinate with project managers, programmers, and other trades.
• Complete system testing, punch-list corrections, installation photos, and closeout documentation.
• Provide basic customer training and system demonstrations when included in the project scope.

**Qualifications**

• Proven experience installing and commissioning commercial AV systems.
• Ability to complete assigned project deliverables independently.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to installation quality.
• Familiarity with Extron, Crestron, Q-SYS, Biamp, or similar commercial AV platforms.
• Working knowledge of AV networking, IP addressing, and connected devices.
• Professional communication and a customer-focused approach.
• Own tools and reliable transportation to project locations.

**Preferred Experience**

• Extron configuration or programming experience.
• DSP configuration and audio tuning.
• Classroom technology, conference rooms, and video conferencing systems.
• Relevant manufacturer training or AVIXA CTS certification.

**Contract Arrangement**

Services will be contracted on a project-by-project basis under a written agreement defining scope, deliverables, schedule, and compensation. Applicants should be established independent service providers able to submit invoices and provide applicable business and insurance documentation.
