***About the Position

Pacific Coast Auto Collision & Detail Center is looking for an experienced Auto Body Prepper / Assistant Technician to join our team.

We are not a traditional high-production body shop. Our facility provides a variety of automotive services, including collision and paint repair, bumper repair, cosmetic refinishing, detailing, paint correction, and related automotive reconditioning services.

The primary responsibility of this position is to prepare vehicles and vehicle components for the painter. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working independently, following instructions, maintaining an organized work area, and completing prep work correctly the first time.

***Primary Responsibilities

Prepare vehicles and individual panels for automotive refinishing

Sand body filler, primer, existing paint, and repaired surfaces

Perform proper surface preparation prior to primer and paint

Apply and sand primer as required

Mask vehicles, panels, trim, glass, and surrounding areas prior to painting

Assist with minor vehicle disassembly and reassembly

Remove and reinstall items such as bumpers, lights, moldings, handles, trim, and related components when necessary

Inspect prepared surfaces for scratches, pinholes, imperfections, and other defects before vehicles are sent to paint

Assist the painter and collision technician as needed

Perform final quality-control checks on prep work

Properly use and maintain shop tools and equipment

Follow all shop safety procedures

Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the day

***Qualifications

2+ years of recent auto body preparation or collision repair experience preferred

Experience with automotive sanding, feather-edging, priming, masking, and paint preparation

Working knowledge of proper grit progression and surface preparation techniques

Ability to perform basic automotive disassembly and reassembly

Ability to identify surface imperfections before the vehicle reaches the paint stage

Must be dependable and able to arrive on time

Must be able to follow instructions and work independently

Comfortable working in a fast-paced automotive environment

Must be able to communicate effectively in English as needed for job duties and workplace safety

Professional automotive work references required

***Tools & Equipment

We provide the primary tools and equipment necessary to perform the job.

We are looking for someone who knows how to properly use and care for professional automotive refinishing and preparation equipment.

***Work Schedule

Monday–Friday
8:00 AM–5:00 PM

This is an in-person position at our San Diego facility.
