Automotive Service Writer

Description

Who Am I & What Do I Need?

Hello, I am Michael and I run Reliable Auto Repair in south San Jose. I need to hire an experienced automotive service writer to take my position and work full time Monday thru Friday from 8AM until 5PM. In the interest of respecting your time I am going to keep the ad short, sweet, and a tad humorous – hopefully this fits who you are and we can meet soon!

What Is Reliable Auto Repair?

We are a small family-owned automotive repair shop with a total of four bays, one alignment rack, four automotive technicians, and one automotive service writer. We use Tekmetric as our shop software to perform inspections, create estimates, and bill customers out on. On average, we service around 360 cars a month.

What Are The Requirements?

-You must know how cars work - this isn’t the dealership where you can wear a nice shirt, put on cologne, and pretend that you know what you’re talking about so that non car people get swindled for the sake of your commission.
-YOU MUST KNOW HOW CARS WORK.
-You must be coming from a place where you write service for a minimum of 250 cars a month by yourself.
-You must type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
-High verbal IQ in order to be able to discuss repairs in simple terms with customers who are not well versed in automotive topics.

What Is Writing Service At Reliable Auto Repair Like?

-Open the shop in the morning at 7:45 AM.
-Starting taking cars out of the garage and parking them in the parking lot.
-At 8:00 AM, run a 5-minute morning meeting with the technicians regarding what was written on a white board the previous day by you. The board details the cars that are coming in, what everyone is currently working on, and any other relevant information that would be necessary to address for the day.
-Greet all the customers in the morning and write up their repair orders.
-Assign the repairs orders to the technicians.
-Prepare estimates from the inspections that the technicians turn back in and get the parts necessary for all of the jobs we sell by calling multiple vendors and comparing pricing.
-Sell the repairs that the technicians recommend and calculate an expected time of completion and keep the customer updated.
-Order the parts necessary for all of the jobs we sell.
-Assign the work to each technician.
-Organize and label all the parts that come in according to which job they belong to.
-Call the customer when the work is done.
-Bill the customer out when they come to pick up their vehicle.
-Answer every single call that comes in to the shop.
-Sign for parts and monitor returns.
-Towards the end of the day, delegate to the technicians which vehicles are being picked up or staying overnight.
Set the alarm, close the shop, and go home at 5:00 PM.

What Am I Offering?

· $90,000 yearly starting.
· Full dental, vision, and health insurance coverage.
· Paid vacation.
· Matching 401k.
· Employee parts discounts.

Final Thoughts

It took me 15 years to get to a point where we are a busy shop with a good name in San Jose that stays packed year-round. We are a business where responsibilities are evenly distributed and all of us carry the totality of the workload. We are looking for a talented, driven leader who takes ownership, delivers results, and wants to be a true partner in building something great. The right person will have the opportunity to make an impact, grow with the company, and help shape our future success. If you’re up for it then give me a call at 408-230-2952, thank you!
