Great bikes change the day. They let people stop thinking about the equipment and enjoy the ride they came to San Francisco for. That starts with the mechanic.

Dandyhorse has been around since 2013. We're an independent shop with two storefronts at 618 and 622 Shrader in the Haight, one block from Golden Gate Park. We have about 50 e-bikes and 25 standard bikes. Our Google rating is 5.0 across 1,275 reviews, and the mechanic's work is a big part of it.

We're not one of the Wharf chains. So we set them up the way we'd set up our own: cable tension right, brakes that hold on a long descent, the small things a rider notices and a spreadsheet never would. We want a mechanic who thinks like a rider at the stand. Pay attention to how the bike actually feels. If it needs one more adjustment or another test ride, take the time.

We're hiring one experienced mechanic to take primary responsibility for the maintenance plan and service log.

Required

• Professional experience in a bike shop or on a rental fleet is required.
• You can reliably get to our Shrader Street shop for every scheduled shift.

The Deal

• $28–$35/hour depending on directly relevant professional experience with e-bike systems, hydraulics, wheels, drivetrains, builds, and fleet maintenance; paid on payroll as a W-2 employee.
• 15–20 hours a week. We agree in advance on a consistent two- or three-day schedule within shop hours, and can consider another job, school, or your own work when setting it. After four weeks we review the service log together and set the ongoing schedule.
• We are hiring now; tell us when you could start.
• Build your own cart on our QBP, Merry Sales, and Velo Orange accounts for personal parts — you pay, we approve the order.
• A professional bike tool setup and a bench dedicated to fleet work.

The Work

• Brakes — disc upgrades, rotors, tuning, cables and housing, hydraulic bleeds
• Wheels and tires — changes, truing, flats, sealant
• Drivetrains — cassettes, chains, single-speed conversions, cranks and pedals
• And the rest — accessories, the occasional full build, safety checks, and keeping the service log straight

You will have room to work independently. We want a meticulous, steady mechanic who keeps the service log current, flags safety issues promptly, and is interested in a long-term role with a consistent schedule.
