Professional Bike Mechanice
Description
BIKE MECHANIC - BIG SKY BIKES, MISSOULA
Big Sky Bikes is a full-service Specialized dealer on E. Front St. in Missoula. We're hiring a mechanic whose job is simple to say and hard to do well: get bikes repaired right, on time, and billed accurately, so riders trust us with their bikes and come back.
PAY AND BENEFITS
- $20-$28/hr depending on experience
- 5 days PTO to start
- Paid holidays
- Paid certification courses (when the shop asks you to take them)
Repairs and builds
- Complete repairs, tune-ups, and builds to shop standard, in the order the Lead Mechanic sets
- Diagnose problems accurately and recommend the right fix, not just the fastest one
- Assemble new bikes to manufacturer specs, including torque values
- Diagnose and service e-bikes using dealer diagnostic tools, following battery safety rules
- Service drivetrains, hydraulic and mechanical brakes (including bleeds), wheels (truing and building), suspension, and electronic shifting
- Test ride or safety-check every bike before it's marked done
- Inspect bikes dropped off for evaluation and write itemized estimates with realistic promise dates
- Separate required work from recommended work so customers can choose
- Get customer approval before starting work, and flag any added work before doing it
- Record parts and labor on the work order as you go, not from memory at the end of the day
- Mark jobs finished in Lightspeed as soon as they're done so the front can call the customer
- Note anything else the customer should know about, even if they didn't ask
- Keep the stand, tools, and parts bins clean and organized
- Flag low supplies, broken tools, and unsafe equipment right away
- Help on the sales floor during busy times, especially Saturdays
- Help with warranty paperwork and photos
- No finished bike sits without a completed, fully itemized work order
- Comebacks are rare, and get fixed first when they happen
- The final bill matches the quote unless the customer approves a change
- Billed labor stays close to actual time, so promise dates hold
- You can explain any repair plainly to a customer
- Solid working knowledge of drivetrain, brake (including hydraulic bleeds), wheel, and suspension service
- E-bike experience, or willingness to complete Specialized Turbo training
- Able to work independently once trained and juggle several open jobs
- Available Saturdays during the season
- Mechanic certification (UBI, Barnett, or similar)
- Wheel building and suspension rebuild experience
- Shimano Di2 or SRAM AXS experience
- Completed Specialized University technical modules
Mechanics can build toward specialties like suspension, wheel building, e-bike diagnostics, or bike fitting, and toward the Lead Mechanic role.
