Overview
Tranzito is a mobility operator specializing in micromobility, curbside management, and multimodal infrastructure for cities. We work with government agencies to help manage transportation programs for the public good, including bike parking rooms, smart bike racks, bus stops, and other transit amenities. We partner with public agencies to deploy and operate solutions that make daily travel easier and more reliable.
Tranzito is seeking a hands-on Bike Parking Program Field Technician to support operations for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Bike Parking Program in the Washington, DC region. This role is a mix of field work, remote coordination, and light administrative work, and is responsible for helping keep bike parking equipment and facilities clean, functional, and ready for customer use.
The Field Technician will work closely with Tranzito staff, WMATA, vendors, and support partners to respond to issues, perform inspections and maintenance, support installations, and document field activity. This is an ideal position for someone who is organized, technically capable, comfortable working independently, and able to troubleshoot both mechanical and basic electronic systems in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, testing, cleaning, and maintenance at WMATA bike parking locations
- Conduct field visits to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and repair bike parking equipment and related site infrastructure
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues involving locks, latches, doors, hinges, fasteners, and other moving hardware
- Diagnose and resolve basic electronic issues involving switches, wiring, simple circuits, sensors, and power or communication-related faults
- Monitor problem reports, alarms, and customer issues, and coordinate with vendors or remote support teams to resolve them
- Document field observations, repairs, work performed, and outstanding issues using digital reporting tools
- Support installation activities, including setup, testing, punch list completion, and issue resolution for new or modified equipment
- Replace minor parts, consumables, or supplies as needed, and identify larger repair needs for escalation
- Coordinate with Tranzito administrative staff, WMATA, and third-party vendors to keep equipment and facilities operational
- Represent Tranzito professionally when working in public-facing environments and interacting with client representatives, partners, and customers
- Use sound judgment, SOPs, and practical troubleshooting skills to determine whether issues can be resolved in the field or should be escalated
- Help maintain the appearance, safety, and usability of bike parking facilities, including lockers, smart racks, U-racks, and public repair stands
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Ability to work independently in the field and manage daily assignments with limited supervision
- Strong organizational skills and clear communication skills
- Strong computer skills and comfort working in digital platforms, dashboards, and reporting tools
- Practical experience maintaining or troubleshooting mechanical and electronic systems
- Ability to inspect, test, clean, maintain, and support customer-facing equipment in the field
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
- Must pass a background check as required for work on WMATA-related facilities and programs
- Personal vehicle available for work-related travel
- Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders if needed, and safely perform hands-on field work in indoor and outdoor environments
Preferred Experience
- Experience with secure bike parking, micromobility operations, or related transportation equipment
- Experience with access-control systems, smart lockers, or network-connected field equipment
- Experience troubleshooting hardware that combines mechanical, electronic, and software components
- Experience documenting field issues, repairs, and maintenance activity in digital systems
- Familiarity with Google Workspace, Asana, and Slack
- Experience coordinating with remote support teams, vendors, and client representatives
- Experience working in transit, municipal, or other public-facing operational environments
Reporting & Collaboration
This role reports to Tranzito’s operations team and works closely with internal staff, WMATA, vendors, and remote support partners to support equipment reliability, issue resolution, and high-quality customer service.
