CARPENTER / MECHANIC – EXTERIOR RESIDENTIAL WORK

$200–$250/day based on experience and skill level

Established NYC residential design/build company is looking for an experienced, hands-on carpenter/mechanic for exterior residential construction projects.

THIS IS NOT A GENERAL LABOR POSITION.

We are looking for someone who knows how to build, can work independently from drawings and field measurements, and understands how to plan a job before cutting material.

Work may include:

• Exterior carpentry and framing
• Decks, fences, screens, gates and custom structures
• Planters and other exterior wood construction
• Repairs and modifications to existing structures
• Working with pressure-treated lumber, cedar, hardwoods and composite materials
• Accurate measuring, layout, cutting and assembly
• Reading drawings, sketches and design details
• Taking field measurements and take-offs
• Creating cut lists and material lists
• Estimating quantities needed for a project
• Identifying material and hardware requirements before work begins

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Solid carpentry/construction experience
• Must be proficient with standard carpentry tools and equipment
• Must own appropriate hand/power tools
• Must have reliable transportation
• Able to work independently without constant supervision
• Able to read plans, drawings and measurements
• Able to calculate material quantities and prepare accurate cut/material lists
• Comfortable using a smartphone for plans, photos, communication, scheduling and job documentation
• Organized and able to think through the sequence of a build
• Reliable, punctual and professional
• Comfortable working outdoors and at residential properties
• Clean driving record
• Security/background check required

We are specifically looking for a MECHANIC — someone with demonstrated construction skills who can be given a scope, measurements or design and understand how to execute the work.

PAY:

$200–$250 per day, depending on demonstrated experience and skill.

Work will begin on a project/job basis with the potential for consistent or full-time work after a trial period.
