Description
Core Responsibilities
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints to determine layout, materials, and installation sequence.
- Prepare subfloors by cleaning, leveling, and repairing surfaces; install underlayment when required.
- Measure accurately and calculate material needs to minimize waste and ensure proper fit.
- Cut, fit, and install floor coverings using appropriate techniques, adhesives, fasteners, and tools.
- Create clean edges with trim, moldings, baseboards, and transitions; maintain expansion gaps.
- Test moisture and conditions to protect flooring from warping or adhesive failures.
- Finish and inspect the installation for levelness, alignment, and overall quality; perform post-install cleaning.
- Maintain tools and workspace; safely handle materials and dispose of waste per regulations.
- Collaborate with team members and communicate with clients to confirm specifications and schedules.
- Proficiency with measuring, math, and spatial reasoning to ensure precise layout and cuts.
- Experience with a range of flooring materials (hardwood, laminate, vinyl, tile, carpet) and their specific installation methods.
- Comfort using hand tools and power tools (circular saws, miter saws, knee kickers, pull blocks, tapping blocks, notched trowels, staplers, nail guns).
- Strong problem-solving skills to handle on-site challenges such as uneven subfloors and moisture concerns.
- Physical stamina and dexterity for long days of standing, bending, lifting, and kneeling.
- Good balance of technical skill and customer service to explain processes and manage expectations.
- Ability to read and follow instructions, safety guidelines, and building codes.
