Construction Superintendent/Field Ops Leader

Commercial and Federal Construction Projects

Our client is hiring a Construction Superintendent to lead daily field operations on commercial and federal projects. Our client uses structured planning, clear communication, and defined procedures to maintain safety, quality, and accountability in the field.

The Superintendent/Field Operations Leader reports to the Project Manager and directs the work of the Carpentry Foreman and subcontractors. The Foreman directs the carpentry crew, including Journey Carpenters and Apprentices/Laborers. You will be responsible for the “who, where, and when” of the jobsite: making sure the right people, materials, equipment, drawings, and approvals are in place for the work ahead.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Open and inspect the site each day, lead the morning safety meeting, and orient new personnel.
• Coordinate subcontractor manpower, work areas, materials, equipment, and deliveries. Resolve conflicts when trades are scheduled to work in the same space.
• Maintain the project schedule, communicate the critical path, and issue detailed two-week look-aheads.
• Review the contract, drawings, specifications, submittals, and RFIs. Identify drawing conflicts, scope gaps, and long-lead materials before they delay field work.
• Plan site access, material laydown areas, haul routes, and utility outages. Coordinate with base personnel when the project is on a federal installation.
• Work with the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to enforce the Accident Prevention Plan, address hazards, and verify equipment inspections and operator credentials.
• Work with the Construction Quality Control (CQC) Manager on preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections. Verify that installed work matches approved drawings, submittals, and RFI responses before it is covered.
• Complete daily production reports covering manpower, weather, equipment, work performed, deliveries, and delays. Take progress photos and keep red-line/as-built drawings current.
• Communicate with the Project Manager, Foreman, subcontractors, quality and safety personnel, and government representatives.

HOW THE COMPANY OPERATES
Our client uses structured planning, crew briefings, and clear lines of responsibility. Its procedures draw on Troop Leading Procedures, Warning Orders, Operations Orders, and Fragmentary Orders adapted for construction.
The Superintendent is expected to communicate the daily plan, assign work clearly, coordinate the resources crews need, and update the team when conditions change. The role also requires consistent attention to safety, quality, documentation, and follow-through.

FEDERAL PROJECT WORK

Federal assignments can involve USACE, NAVFAC, DOE, or similar project requirements. Depending on the site, the Superintendent may need to:

• Work from federal specifications and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
• Coordinate security credentials and controlled site access.
• Support Activity Hazard Analyses and EM 385-1-1 safety procedures.
• Participate in the federal three-phase quality control process.
• Maintain detailed reports in RMS 3.0 or a similar system.
• Coordinate advance requests for utility outages.
• Keep daily red-line drawings and other records ready for review.

Some assignments may also require background screening, drug and alcohol testing, additional site credentials, or eligibility for unescorted access or a federal clearance. Requirements depend on the final project location.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Experience leading commercial construction projects as a Superintendent or in a comparable field leadership role.
• Strong ability to coordinate multiple trades, subcontractors, schedules, materials, safety, and quality.
• Ability to read construction drawings and specifications and turn them into practical daily work plans.
• Clear communication, accurate documentation, and consistent follow-through.
• Ability to adjust the plan when site conditions, materials, access, or schedules change without compromising safety or quality.
• Federal construction experience is highly valuable.
• Familiarity with EM 385-1-1, federal three-phase quality control, UFC/UFGS requirements, RMS 3.0, and Primavera P6 is valuable.
• Current Construction Quality Management (CQM) for Contractors certification is required. Candidates must be able to maintain the certification throughout employment.
