DRILLER’S ASSISTANT

Job Site Services, Inc. (JSS) is seeking a dependable, hardworking Driller’s Assistant to join our drilling team in Cedar Springs. This is a hands-on, field-based position working alongside experienced drillers on a variety of environmental, geotechnical, and construction-related projects.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-minded, reliable, and comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions. Previous drilling or heavy-equipment experience is a plus. We will provide position-specific training for a candidate who has a strong work ethic and is eager to learn.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist the Lead Driller with the setup, operation, and maintenance of drill rigs and related equipment.
• Assist with drilling activities, sampling, and other field operations as directed by the Lead Driller.
• Prepare job sites by setting up tools and equipment, loading and unloading materials, and preparing work areas for drilling operations.
• Assist with positioning and setting up drill rigs and equipment according to project requirements.
• Operate hand and power tools and assist with routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of drilling equipment.
• Drive, operate, and maintain company vehicles, forklifts, skid steers, and other equipment when qualified and authorized.
• Perform physical labor including lifting, carrying, shoveling, moving drilling materials, and site cleanup.
• Clean and maintain drill rigs, vehicles, equipment, tools, and job site areas.
• Communicate and work effectively with the Lead Driller, drilling personnel, project teams, and other JSS staff.
• Identify and communicate site hazards, utilities, and other safety concerns.
• Follow instructions, daily work schedules, project requirements, and company procedures.
• Must be aware of and adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications:

• H.S. education or equivalent preferred.
• Basic physical and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written communication.
• Ability to receive work instructions and follow assigned tasks.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a drilling crew and project team.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to demonstrate a strong work ethic.
• Ability to identify problems in the field and assist with determining appropriate solutions.
• Previous drilling, construction, environmental, geotechnical, or heavy equipment experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience with sonic, auger, rotary, or direct-push drilling equipment is a plus.
• Must be able to work off shifts and overtime.
• Travel up to 75%.
• Must have a valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
• Must pass motor vehicle record and background investigation, pre-employment physical, drug/alcohol screening, and random drug/alcohol screening.
• Occasional use of respirators, protective suits, and other personal protective equipment may be required.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication (hearing) and to make discriminations in sound.
• Ability to kneel and squat.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold).
• Ability to climb.
• Ability to perform repetitive physical and manual tasks associated with drilling and field operations.
