Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Drywall Spotter/Repairman located in Fraser, MI. The Drywall Spotter/Repairman will be responsible for spotting and repairing drywall, performing touch-ups, and ensuring smooth finishes. The role involves working collaboratively with other team members on framing, plastering, remodeling, and commercial construction projects. Daily tasks include inspecting surfaces, preparing materials, applying drywall or patches, sanding, and ensuring high-quality results.
Core Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation: Clean and prepare wall/ceiling surfaces, removing debris, loose paint, or wallpaper.
- Applying Compound: Mix and apply joint compound ("mud") to seams, joints, and screw/nail depressions using trowels and taping knives.
- Taping and Finishing: Press paper or mesh tape into the wet compound and apply multiple layers of compound, feathering the edges to blend seamlessly with the rest of the wall.
- Sanding and Smoothing: Once dry, sand the surfaces using hand or power sanding tools to achieve a flawless finish free of ridges or bumps.
- Repair Work: Identify and repair imperfections, including cracks, dents, holes, or water damage, by patching and blending the repairs to match the existing surface.
- Quality Control: Inspect completed work to ensure high-quality standards are met and the surface is level and straight.
- Cleanup and Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized work area, properly dispose of waste materials, and clean and maintain tools and equipment.
- Safety Adherence: Follow all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate protective gear and safely using ladders or scaffolding.
- Collaboration: Coordinate workflow and ensure project timelines are met by collaborating with other team members, contractors, and project managers.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools specific to drywall work (e.g., utility knives, T-squares, taping knives, drills, sanders).
- Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy materials (drywall sheets can be heavy) and work in various postures (standing, kneeling, bending) for extended periods.
- Attention to detail for a flawless, seamless finish.
- Hand-eve coordination and manual dexterity.
- In-depth knowledge of drywall finishing techniques, materials, and industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project specifications.
- Understanding of safety practices and regulations in construction environments.
- Good problem-solving abilities and a commitment to meeting project deadlines.
- 1099 Contractors require General Liability and Workmen's Comp
- Good Driver's Record is required - will be driving to job sites around Tri County Metro Detroit, MI with company vehicle.
