About Us:
Townsend Electric Inc. is a family-owned commercial, industrial, and residential electrical company located in Longwood. We serve diverse clients throughout Central Florida and are expanding our team. We are looking for a motivated, highly detailed Commercial & Industrial Electrical Estimator to bid upcoming landmark projects, including schools, hospitals, and restaurants.
Job Summary:
The Electrical Estimator will bid new jobs and complete comprehensive estimates in a timely manner. You will be responsible for tracking multi-phase project requirements, preparing competitive proposals, performing detailed material take-offs, and managing file organization. This role bridges the gap between pre-construction planning, engineering submittals, and field execution.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive Project Bidding: Prepare and manage highly accurate bids for institutional, commercial and industrial projects (such as schools, medical facilities, and restaurants).
  • Take-offs & Estimation: Perform precise take-offs and detailed estimation of specialized commercial equipment, gear, labor, and materials based on complex builder specifications and digital bidding tools.
  • Plan & Submittal Evaluation: Thoroughly review structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical designs. Identify plan discrepancies, coordinate with engineers, and resolve issues before they impact final project pricing.
  • Vendor & Subcontractor Outsource: Request, obtain, and evaluate competitive quotes from vendors, manufacturers, and subcontractors for major gear, lighting packages, and direct field labor.
  • Proposal & RFI Creation: Draft and assemble precise professional proposals, qualification sheets, and Requests for Information (RFIs) during the pre-bid phase.
  • Procurement Support: Collaborate with company purchasing agents, project managers, and field superintendents to ensure long-lead commercial equipment procurement meets targeted contract costs.
  • File Upkeep & Organization: Maintain impeccable documentation, bid logs, drawing revisions, and file organization for all active and historical estimates.
  • Deadline Management: Maintain a strong sense of urgency with the ability to simultaneously juggle multiple commercial, and industrial bids under tight developer guidelines.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to professionally interface with corporate developers, institutional inspectors, and project managers.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial/industrial cost accounting principles and electrical labor factoring.
  • Excellent organizational skills, rigorous attention to detail, and a structured approach to record-keeping.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate complex architectural bluelines and single-line schematics.
  • Proficient with specialized digital electrical estimating tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be a self-motivated team player with a positive, professional attitude.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the electrical trade preferred, with specific exposure to commercial electrical construction or field management.
  • Experience with McCormick Systems electrical estimating software is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) as it applies to commercial, industrial, and dense multi-family environments.
  • Proven track record estimating or building institutional structures (schools/hospitals), commercial spaces (restaurants), or industrial frameworks.
  • Skilled in reading, interpreting, and applying fundamental architectural plans, specifications, submittals, and bid packages.
