Excavator Operator - Underground Utility Pipe Crew

Position Summary:

Pav-Co Contracting is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to join our Underground Utility Pipe Crew. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating an excavator for the installation of underground water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.

Candidates MUST have prior experience working specifically as an Excavator Operator on an underground utility pipe crew. General excavator experience without pipe crew experience does not meet the requirements for this position.

Responsibilities:

• Operate excavators for underground utility and pipe installation.
• Excavate trenches for water mains, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and related underground utilities.
• Dig accurately to required depths, grades, and elevations.
• Read and understand grade stakes and use them to maintain proper excavation depth and grade.
• Assist with setting and installing RCP, PVC, HDPE, ductile iron pipe, manholes, structures, inlets, and related utility components.
• Safely excavate around existing utilities and structures.
• Perform backfilling, material handling, loading, and grading as needed.
• Work closely with the Foreman, Pipe Layers, and ground crew to maintain safe and efficient production.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and trench/excavation safety procedures.
• Assist the pipe crew with other duties as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

• Prior experience working as an Excavator Operator on an underground utility pipe crew is REQUIRED.
• Experience excavating for water, sewer, and/or storm drainage installation.
• Must be able to read and understand grade stakes.
• Ability to dig accurately to grade and required elevations.
• Knowledge of underground utility installation and trenching procedures.
• Ability to safely excavate around existing utilities.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Clean driving record required.
• Ability to work effectively with Pipe Layers, Laborers, and Foremen.
• Dependable attendance and reliable transportation to work.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
• Ability to perform physical labor and assist the crew when necessary.

Preferred Skills:
- Experience operating additional heavy equipment, including loaders, skid steers, backhoes, dozers, and compaction equipment, is preferred.

Pay:

• $25 - $29/hour based on experience
• Full-time position
• Competitive pay based on experience
• Compensation will be based on demonstrated underground utility and excavator operating experience
