Experienced Carpenter Wanted – Occasional / As-Needed Work

Independent deck contractor looking for an experienced carpenter interested in occasional work.

This is not a full-time job and there are no guaranteed weekly hours. I need someone I can call when I have enough work for another carpenter, typically for one or more full days at a time. Many projects will provide several consecutive days of work.

This may be a good fit if you're self-employed, between projects, semi-retired, or already working but occasionally have weekdays available.

Most of the work is residential deck construction:

Framing

Decking
Railings
Stairs
Demo/rebuild work
Occasional other residential carpentry

You don't need to be a deck specialist, but you do need actual carpentry/construction experience. You should be able to measure and cut accurately, understand level/plumb/square, use common power tools safely, and work productively without being taught basic carpentry.

I'm not looking for a completely inexperienced laborer. I'm looking for someone who can show up and be useful on a construction site.

Reliability matters. If you commit to working a particular day, I need to know you'll be there.

Pay: $28–$35/hr depending on actual ability and experience. More may be appropriate for someone capable of advanced layout and working independently.

Most work is in the north, northwest and western suburbs. Transportation to the jobsite is required.
