Jones Contracting, Inc. is a family-owned excavation and sitework contractor serving the Greater Boston area. Our work includes underground utilities, drainage, excavation, grading, site development, and civil construction.
We are looking for an experienced Excavation Foreman / Equipment Operator who can take responsibility for smaller projects, manage a small crew, and operate equipment as part of the work.
This is not an entry-level operator position. We are looking for someone with substantial excavation and sitework experience who understands how to run a job, plan the work, manage people, and keep production moving.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on working foreman who can be given a project, an excavator, and a crew of approximately 2 to 5 employees and take ownership of the work.
Responsibilities include:
- Operating excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment
- Leading and working alongside a small excavation crew
- Planning and organizing daily work
- Excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, compaction, and utility installation
- Reading plans and understanding grades and elevations
- Coordinating trucking, materials, equipment, and deliveries
- Communicating with project management and inspectors
- Identifying field issues and keeping work moving safely and efficiently
- 10+ years of excavation and sitework experience preferred
- Strong excavator and loader operating experience
- Previous experience running work and supervising a small crew
- Strong underground utility and drainage experience
- Ability to read plans and understand grades and elevations
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Massachusetts hoisting license preferred
- CDL is a plus
- GPS machine control and layout experience is a plus
We are looking for someone who knows this work well enough to think ahead and run a job without being walked through every step. You do not need to have managed large commercial projects or large crews. We need a strong working foreman who can manage a few people, operate efficiently, solve problems, and take responsibility for getting the job done properly.
