Description
We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and motivated Working Lead Plumber to oversee and operate our entire plumbing department. This is a full-time W-2 employee position specializing in residential new construction and remodeling. This is not an independent contractor position. The successful candidate will be the sole plumber for the company and will be responsible for both performing the plumbing work in the field and managing the plumbing department. A plumbing helper will be provided when needed.
This is a hands-on leadership position. The Lead Plumber is expected to personally perform plumbing installations, repairs, troubleshooting, and inspections while overseeing scheduling, materials, code compliance, inspections, and the overall success of the plumbing division. This is not a management-only position.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as the company's lead and sole plumber on all plumbing projects.
- Personally perform all plumbing work, including underground, rough-in, top-out, finish, service work, remodels, and new construction.
- This is an exclusive full-time position. The plumber will work solely for the company and may not perform plumbing work for other contractors or operate a competing plumbing business while employed.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate all plumbing work to keep projects on schedule.
- Set up, coordinate, and attend all required inspections with local municipalities and inspectors.
- Ensure every installation is completed according to the latest local, state, and national plumbing codes.
- Stay current with all plumbing code updates, new installation methods, products, materials, and industry standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and construction plans.
- Open and maintain vendor accounts to secure the best pricing, availability, and service.
- Order, schedule, pick up, and manage all plumbing materials and inventory.
- Continuously identify opportunities to reduce labor and material costs without sacrificing quality or code compliance.
- Be highly experienced with copper, PEX, PVC, CPVC, cast iron, DWV systems, gas piping, and all approved plumbing installation methods.
- Be proficient with soldering, press fittings, PEX crimp, PEX expansion, threaded, compression, no-hub, and all other approved plumbing connection methods.
- Own and maintain all required plumbing tools, specialty tools, testing equipment, and machinery necessary to perform all phases of plumbing work.
- Maintain a reliable personal work truck during the initial employment period.
- Upon successful completion of a 60-day probationary and performance evaluation period, the employee will be issued a company truck for business use.
- Lead, train, and supervise plumbing helpers while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe job site.
- Communicate professionally with project managers, inspectors, vendors, subcontractors, and homeowners.
- Take full responsibility for the performance, organization, profitability, growth, and success of the plumbing department.
- Business development is a required responsibility of this position. The Lead Plumber is expected to actively network, generate new leads, and represent the company in the community. The expectation is to bring in a minimum of two (2) new clients per month by building relationships with homeowners, contractors, Realtors, property managers, restoration companies, HOAs, and other referral sources. Jobs personally brought into the company will earn an agreed-upon commission in addition to regular compensation.
- Master Plumber or licensed plumber with extensive experience in residential new construction and remodeling.
- Proven ability to independently manage an entire plumbing department while actively working in the field.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, permitting, inspections, and municipal requirements.
- Extensive experience with copper, PEX, PVC, CPVC, cast iron, DWV, and gas piping systems.
- Must speak, read, and write English fluently to communicate effectively with homeowners, inspectors, suppliers, vendors, project managers, and office staff.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex plumbing systems and make sound field decisions.
- Must own all required plumbing tools and specialty equipment.
- Must have a reliable personal truck during the probationary period and a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
