Structural Carpenter Wanted

Description

About Us:

SE Portland-based general contractor specializing in the historic preservation of residential and commercial properties throughout the greater Portland area. Our core work includes house lifting, structural shoring, foundation demolition and replacement, excavation, and misc. structural upgrades for both residential and commercial clients. We are a small, tight-knit team and we're looking for someone who wants to continue to grow their skill set and is looking for a long term new home.

The Role:

We need an experienced rough carpenter with a deep structural background and the drive to do the job right. You'll be challenged daily. Reading engineer-stamped drawings, solving problems in the field, and building things that genuinely need to stand up. If you take pride in structural work and want to be part of something long-term, we want to hear from you.

Core Competencies Required:
*Wall Framing – Load-bearing and non-load-bearing walls; correct stud spacing (16" or 24" OC), plates, headers, and king/jack/cripple stud configurations.
*Floor Systems – Sill plates, rim joists, floor joists, blocking, bridging, and subfloor sheathing; working knowledge of span tables and load calculations.
*Beam and Post Work – Structural columns, posts, LVL beams, and steel connectors.
*Concrete Formwork – Building and bracing forms for foundations, walls, and slabs; rebar, dobies, and flatwork.
*Shear Walls & Lateral Bracing – Installing wind and seismic resistance elements per engineering specs.
*Roof Framing – Rafters, ridge boards, hip/valley rafters, collar ties, ceiling joists, and pre-manufactured truss installation.
*Technical Literacy – Reading structural engineering drawings, interpreting span tables, adhering to IRC/IBC building codes, and executing engineer-stamped plans precisely.
*Hardware and Fastening – Structural connectors (hurricane ties, joist hangers, post bases, hold-downs, shear panels) and compliance with nailing schedules.
*Engineered Materials – LVL, LSL, parallel strand lumber, I-joists, structural OSB and plywood.

What We're Looking For:
*5-7 years of rough carpentry experience with a strong structural focus.
*Demonstrated ability to lead a small crew and supervise laborers effectively.
*Able to read and execute architectural and structural engineering plans.
*Valid and active Oregon driver's license and reliable transportation.
*Well-equipped tool kit appropriate to your experience level and wage expectations.
*Dependable. Shows up to work on time, every day.
*Strong communicator; positive, innovative, and a genuine team player.
*Detail-oriented and organized, with a customer-service mindset.
*Comfortable picking up a broom, shovel, or helping with shop tasks — no job is beneath you.

A note on what we build:

Your primary responsibility is structural integrity. Every connection you make transfers load from roof to wall to floor to foundation. Mistakes here have real consequences. We hold ourselves to a high standard and expect the same from the people we hire.

1 week vacation pay after 1 year of employment.

We are not offering seasonal, part-time, gig, or cash work.
