Experienced Woodworker

Southern Pines Custom Coops is looking for a highly experienced Woodworker / Shop Lead to help lead our production team building custom chicken coops and other small wood structures.

PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING: the experience requirements before applying. This is NOT a cabinetmaking, furniture-building, handyman, or traditional residential framing position.

We are specifically looking for someone who has worked in a fast-paced production environment building small wood structures such as:

Sheds

Tiny homes
Portable buildings
Chicken coops
Playhouses
Small barns
Wood-framed outdoor structures
Prefabricated/modular wood structures
Similar production-built structures

What We're Looking For:

We need someone who is fast, experienced, organized, and extremely efficient and RELIABLE.
Our shop operates in a production environment with deadlines. We build custom products, but they still have to move through the shop quickly. You need to know how to look at a set of build specifications, organize the build, delegate work to other builders, solve problems quickly, and get the product out the door.

This position is ideal for someone who has been a lead builder, production lead, foreman, shop lead, or highly experienced builder in a shed, portable building, tiny-home, prefab, or similar manufacturing environment.

You Should Be Able To:

Lead and direct a small team of builders
Keep multiple people productive throughout the day
Build quickly without sacrificing quality
Frame floors, walls, roofs, doors, and small structures
Understand roof pitches, measurements, layouts, and basic construction drawings
Work confidently with saws, nail guns, drills, impact drivers, and standard woodworking/construction equipment
Identify the fastest and most efficient way to complete a build
Catch mistakes before they become expensive problems
Hold other builders accountable for quality and productivity
Work under pressure and meet production deadlines
Jump in and physically build alongside the team — this is not a desk-only supervisor position
Take ownership of a project from the beginning of production until it is ready to leave the shop

Who We're NOT Looking For:

We want to be very clear about this because the right type of experience matters.
We are not specifically looking for:
Cabinetmakers
Furniture makers
Hobby woodworkers
Handymen
Trim/finish carpenters
Plumbers, electricians, or unrelated trades
Someone whose only experience is traditional residential house framing

Those can all be skilled trades, but this position requires a different mindset.
We need someone who understands production-style small structure building — where efficiency, sequencing, speed, problem-solving, and getting finished structures out the door matter every single day.

The Right Person

You're probably a great fit if you've worked somewhere that had a production schedule that essentially said:
"These structures need to be finished and out the door. Figure out how to make it happen."
You don't stand around waiting to be told what to do. You see what needs to happen next, assign tasks, keep materials and people moving, and make sure the team hits the deadline.

We're looking for someone who can eventually become a key leader in our shop and help us improve production as we continue growing.

Experience

Strong preference will be given to applicants with direct experience in shed manufacturing, portable building manufacturing, tiny-home production, prefab/modular construction, or similar small-structure production.

Leadership or foreman experience is highly preferred.
