EXPERIENCED WOODWORKER / CARPENTER NEEDED – MUST HAVE OWN SHOP & TOOLS – SAN DIEGO

PLEASE READ THE REQUIREMENTS BEFORE RESPONDING.

You do not have to have previous door-building experience. One of our best carpenters came to us with extensive furniture-building experience and had never built a door before.

However, you DO need to already be an experienced woodworker. We are not looking for someone who wants to learn woodworking from scratch.

YOU MUST:

• Live in San Diego County
• Have your own woodworking shop
• Have your own professional woodworking tools and equipment
• Have substantial hands-on woodworking experience
• Be experienced building furniture, cabinets, doors, architectural millwork or similar custom wood projects
• Be able to read measurements and work from drawings, photographs and specifications
• Be comfortable working with hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, walnut and alder
• Be dependable and communicate well
• Take pride in producing high-quality work

DOOR-BUILDING EXPERIENCE IS A PLUS, BUT NOT REQUIRED.

If you are an experienced furniture maker, cabinetmaker or custom woodworker and have never built a door, we are willing to work with the right person.

We are looking for someone who understands woodworking, knows how wood behaves, can accurately cut and assemble components, and has the equipment and experience necessary to produce professional-quality work.

• You have construction experience but little or no fine woodworking experience

We have ongoing custom projects and are looking for another talented craftsperson we can develop a long-term working relationship with.

If you are a skilled furniture maker or woodworker who looks at one of our doors and thinks, “I can build that,” we would like to hear from you.
We will start with one of our most basic square-top door designs as a paid trial project. We will supply the wood, hinges and all necessary hardware. You will be responsible for building the door in your own shop according to our measurements and specifications.
We supply:

• All wood
• Hinges
• Door hardware
• Designs, measurements and specifications
• Direction on how we want the door constructed

We also handle all staining and finishing. You are being hired for your woodworking and carpentry skills — you do not need to stain or finish the doors.
Once the first door is successfully completed to the agreed specifications, we will give you another door to build. This allows both of us to see whether the work is a good fit.
From there, we can provide steady ongoing work, with the price for each door agreed upon in advance.
Our current carpenters build anywhere from approximately 1 to 5 doors per week, depending on their availability, experience and how quickly they work. We are not necessarily looking for someone who can build five doors a week. If you can consistently build one excellent door at a time, we can use the additional help.
This can be as much work as your schedule and ability allow.
We have been building custom doors since 2014 and have produced approximately 8,000 doors. Demand for our doors continues to grow, which is why we are looking for additional skilled woodworkers.
We are not looking for someone for a few weeks or a temporary project. If you enjoy this type of work, produce quality craftsmanship and are dependable, we can potentially provide you with steady work for many years.
