FIELD MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN / COMMERCIAL HANDYMAN
$25–$32 Per Hour, Based on Experience

GMS Contracting is seeking a dependable, experienced Field Maintenance Technician to join our commercial maintenance team. We service retail stores and commercial properties throughout New Jersey, New York City, and lower Connecticut.

This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in their work, can troubleshoot problems in the field, and is comfortable handling a wide variety of repairs. No two days are exactly the same.

• $25–$32 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated skill level

SCHEDULE — PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Commercial maintenance does not always operate on a traditional Monday-through-Friday schedule. Some assignments take place during normal daytime hours, while others must be completed at night, after a store closes, or occasionally on weekends.

Work hours and locations may vary from week to week depending on customer needs. Applicants must be flexible, dependable, and available for both daytime and nighttime assignments. We want every applicant to understand the schedule expectations before accepting the position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• General commercial repairs and preventative maintenance
• Light plumbing repairs, including faucets, toilets, urinals, drains, and minor leaks
• Light electrical work, including receptacles, switches, lighting, and basic troubleshooting
• Carpentry, drywall repair, patching, caulking, and hardware installation
• Interior painting and professional touch-up work
• Door, lock, closer, shelving, fixture, and restroom repairs
• Flooring, ceiling tile, wall protection, and general finish repairs
• Accurately documenting completed work and taking clear before-and-after photographs
• Communicating professionally with store managers and customer representatives
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Commercial handyman or building-maintenance experience
• Strong painting skills are required
• Working knowledge of light plumbing, light electrical, and carpentry
• Ability to troubleshoot and complete assignments with limited supervision
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
• Ability and willingness to travel throughout our service area
• Ability to work safely from ladders and handle the physical requirements of maintenance work
• Dependable attendance and professional appearance
• Smartphone and ability to send photographs, updates, and job documentation
• Must be willing to undergo any employment screening required for commercial customer locations

Additional construction, flooring, door repair, locksmith, tile, HVAC, welding, or equipment experience is a plus.
