Pay: $25.00 - $50.00 per hour

Job description:

Key Responsibilities

Inspection & Preventive Maintenance
Conduct comprehensive inspections of kitchen hood and fire suppression systems in accordance with NFPA 96, NFPA 17A, manufacturer guidelines, and local AHJ requirements
Perform cleaning, lubrication, and full functional testing of fans, ducts, filters, fusible links, nozzles, detection lines, and actuation components
Identify fire hazards, code violations, and system deficiencies, and provide clear corrective recommendations
Ensure all systems remain compliant, operational, and inspection-ready at all times
Repair & Troubleshooting
Diagnose and repair issues involving detection lines, nozzles, fusible links, gas shut-offs, microswitches, and actuation mechanisms
Replace or rebuild system components to restore full functionality and compliance
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical components within suppression systems
Collaborate with team members to implement preventive maintenance solutions that reduce repeat deficiencies
Installation Support
Assist with installation and commissioning of new kitchen hood suppression systems
Verify system layout, nozzle placement, piping configuration, and detection coverage per manufacturer specifications and applicable fire codes
Ensure all work complies with requirements set by the Texas Department of Insurance – State Fire Marshal’s Office
Support final inspections and AHJ approvals when required
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate digital and written inspection, maintenance, and repair documentation
Generate detailed deficiency reports and compliance documentation for customers and AHJs
Clearly communicate inspection findings, repair recommendations, and compliance status to customers and office staff
Ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and submitted on time
Customer Service & Professionalism
Respond promptly and professionally to client inquiries
Coordinate inspection schedules, service calls, and follow-up visits
Provide practical safety recommendations to keep facilities compliant and protected
Represent Spartan Fire Protection with professionalism, integrity, and technical expertise

Requirements

Education
High School Diploma or GED (required)

Licensing Requirements

Texas Type K Fire Extinguisher License (required)
– Issued by the Texas Department of Insurance – State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO)
– Must currently hold a valid Type K license OR have active Type K exam eligibility with proof of manufacturer certification (Ansul, Kidde, Pyro-Chem, RangeGuard, etc.)
Employing company must maintain a Type A Fire Extinguisher License with Type K endorsement
Type A Fire Extinguisher License (preferred but not required for individual technicians)
Experience & Technical Skills
Proven experience performing kitchen hood suppression inspections, testing, and maintenance (required)
Strong working knowledge of NFPA 96, NFPA 17A, and local fire codes
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, piping diagrams, and system schematics
Proficiency diagnosing mechanical and electrical components within suppression systems
Experience using digital inspection/reporting platforms preferred

Other Qualifications

Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively within a team
Comfortable working in confined spaces, commercial kitchens, and at heights
Ability to lift and carry tools, ladders, and equipment up to 50 lbs
Valid Texas Driver’s License (required)
