Foreman Excavation and/or Wet Utilities

Description

Bear Excavating is looking for an experienced, hands-on foreman who can lead projects in the field.

We are a well-established excavation contractor specializing in site work, mass excavation, detail excavation and backfill, grading, ponds and water-management projects, roads and driveways, drainage, and wet utilities.

We are hiring a foreman capable of taking ownership of a project from mobilization through completion.

This person should be capable of performing physical work requiring long periods of sitting and standing, frequent walking, and climbing, in all weather conditions including very hot, very cold and wet conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a small field crew and keep the project productive
  • Review project plans to ensure construction is completed according to specifications
  • Establish grades, and perform layout using lasers and grade equipment
  • Plan daily work, organize and manage materials and aggregates, organize crews and equipment
  • Provide leadership and direction to crews while emphasizing safety, quality and production
  • Oversee crews to ensure project is constructed according to the approved plans and within the project schedule
  • Schedule testing and inspections as required to maintain workflow
  • Track employee, equipment, and project hours accurately
  • Perform basic equipment inspections, direct maintenance and field troubleshooting
  • Communicate professionally with customers, inspectors, engineers, and management
  • Work outside the machine whenever the project requires it
  • Operate excavators, loaders, skid steers, compactors, and related equipment as needed
  • Work closely with Superintendents to verify the project scope, schedule and budget
  • Complete trenching, sloping, drainage work, road building, detailed excavation and backfill, finish grading, complete all aspects of water/sanitary/storm utilities including detention systems
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least four years of relevant excavation and heavy-equipment experience
  • Strong excavator skills, including finish work—not just bulk dirt movement
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain grade
  • Proven knowledge of wet utilities construction including large scale water/sewer/storm installations.
  • Reliable, well organized, and capable of leading and supervising other employees while clearly communicating goals and expectations.
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 lbs
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Must pass UA to federal standards and pass federal background check
  • Experience with intelligent machinery a plus
  • Able to work safely with a range of machinery and project complexities
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus
HIGHLY PREFERRED:

A skilled foreman who communicates clearly, manages crews, and takes pride in delivering a finished project correctly (to spec, on time, within budget)

Experience in a range of commercial projects which include mass excavation, foundation excavation and backfill, drainage, pond and rain garden work, large scale grading operations, water and sewer mains, fire lines, domestic water and irrigation services, sanitary sewer service laterals, water main lowering, storm sewer systems and structures, storm detention systems, and rain gardens
