About EZ Pawn Corp
EZ Pawn Corp is a family-owned pawn company with 18 locations across New York City, built on three generations of expertise in fine jewelry, lending, and luxury resale. We are seeking an experienced Gemologist to lead jewelry appraisals, quality control, and wholesale operations from our main office.
About the Role
We're looking for a credentialed Gemologist to oversee the jewelry function across our organization. This is a hands-on role for someone who combines technical gemological expertise with strong organizational and vendor-management skills. You'll be the go-to authority on fine jewelry valuation and quality across all our retail locations.
Daily Responsibilities
Write detailed, accurate appraisals for fine jewelry items, including diamonds, colored gemstones, and precious metals
Manage and grow relationships with wholesale accounts, including sourcing, pricing negotiations, and order fulfillment
Oversee the company's jewelry department, including workflow, staffing coordination, and departmental standards
Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure accuracy across jewelry assets
Perform quality control review on jewelry items across retail operations, ensuring consistency in grading, authentication, and presentation
Serve as the internal expert resource for jewelry-related questions from branch staff
Qualifications
Required:
GIA credentials (Graduate Gemologist or equivalent GIA diploma) required
Proven experience working in fine jewelry (retail, wholesale, appraisal, or pawn/resale environment)
Strong knowledge of diamond grading (4Cs), colored stone identification, and precious metal assessment
Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills
Comfortable using gemological equipment (loupes, microscopes, refractometers, etc.)
Preferred:
Experience in a multi-location retail or pawn environment
Familiarity with wholesale jewelry sourcing and vendor negotiation
Prior experience overseeing inventory systems or a jewelry department/team
