Generator Supercenter is hiring a motivated and dependable Generac Generator Service Technician to join our team.
Generator Supercenter is one of the largest Generac residential and light-commercial generator sales and service companies in North America. We install, service, and maintain standby generator systems that help protect our customers’ homes and businesses during power outages.
We are looking for someone who enjoys hands-on mechanical work, solving problems, helping customers, and working in a fast-paced environment. Previous generator experience is a plus, but we are also willing to consider applicants with experience working on automotive engines, small engines, electrical equipment, HVAC systems, industrial machinery, or similar equipment.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop a valuable, career-changing technical skill set. The selected candidate must be willing and able to complete the required Generac service technician training and certification courses.
Primary Responsibilities
The Service Technician will diagnose, repair, maintain, and test residential and light-commercial Generac generator systems.
Responsibilities include:
- Traveling to customers’ homes and businesses in a company-provided service vehicle.
- Performing scheduled generator maintenance and safety inspections.
- Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, fuel-system, and control-panel problems.
- Following Generac service manuals and diagnostic procedures step by step.
- Reading and identifying generator fault codes, alarms, and operating conditions.
- Determining the correct repair based on diagnostic results.
- Repairing or replacing defective generator components.
- Performing engine repairs and adjustments when necessary.
- Changing engine oil, oil filters, air filters, spark plugs, and other maintenance components.
- Inspecting, testing, cleaning, and replacing generator batteries.
- Inspecting fuel systems, wiring, connections, switches, and generator enclosures.
- Conducting start-up, operational, and load-testing procedures.
- Verifying that completed repairs have corrected the reported problem.
- Maintaining an organized inventory of tools, parts, and supplies in the company vehicle.
- Keeping the assigned service vehicle clean and in good working condition.
- Following all company procedures, manufacturer guidelines, and applicable safety requirements.
Our technicians represent Generator Supercenter at every customer location. The successful candidate must be professional, respectful, and comfortable communicating directly with customers.
Customer service responsibilities include:
- Explaining generator problems and recommended repairs in clear, understandable language.
- Answering customer questions about generator operation, maintenance, and safety.
- Keeping customers informed about the status of their service appointment.
- Identifying additional maintenance, repairs, or accessories that may benefit the customer.
- Professionally recommending and selling additional services when appropriate.
- Obtaining customer approval before performing additional work.
- Collecting required customer signatures and documenting completed services.
- Treating customers’ homes, businesses, and property with care and respect.
Accurate and timely paperwork is an important part of this position. The Service Technician will be responsible for:
- Completing daily service and warranty reports.
- Recording diagnostic findings, fault codes, labor, parts used, and repairs performed.
- Taking clear before-and-after photographs as required.
- Uploading documentation through the company-provided tablet.
- Obtaining customer signatures at the completion of each service call.
- Submitting complete warranty documentation within required deadlines.
- Maintaining accurate service records for every customer and generator.
- Communicating with management when additional parts, technical support, or follow-up visits are needed.
Applicants should have:
- A strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with tools and equipment.
- The ability to read and carefully follow service manuals, wiring diagrams, and step-by-step diagnostic instructions.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
