Maintenance Supervisor/Building Engineer
Description
Busy residential high-rise in Chicago is seeking an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Supervisor / Building Engineer to perform general building maintenance while helping oversee daily maintenance operations.
We are looking for a true hands-on maintenance professional - someone who takes pride in knowing how to fix things and enjoys working with their hands. The ideal candidate is well-rounded "jack of all trades" who can walk into the problem, figure out what needs to be done, and get the job done right. This is not a desk-only supervisory position.
Compensation: $34–$36/hour, based on experience
Full-time union position with union benefits
On-call availability required
Company-provided apartment on-site
Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance, repairs, and apartment turnover work
- Painting, drywall repair, patching, and finishing
- Flooring installation and repair
- Plumbing and fixture repairs
- Basic electrical repairs
- Doors, locks, hardware, and carpentry
- General troubleshooting and building repairs
- Complete vacant units and other projects on schedule
- Supervise and work alongside maintenance staff
- Complete, assign and follow up on daily work orders
- Coordinate outside contractors and vendors when needed
- Respond to urgent and emergency maintenance issues
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment
- Assist with building inspections and preventive maintenance
- Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of residential or building maintenance experience
- Previous supervisory or lead maintenance experience required
- Strong hands-on skills in general building maintenance and repairs
- Experience with apartment turnovers strongly preferred
- Ability to work across multiple trades, including painting drywal, patching, flooring, carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical, HVAC, appliance repair, doors, locks and hardware, minor masonry, and general building repairs and handle a variety of maintenance projects
- Dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Experience with HUD/NSPIRE inspections is a plus
