Position Summary

P.R. Russell is seeking an experienced and dependable Heavy Equipment Mechanic to service, diagnose, repair, and maintain our company-owned heavy equipment and production machinery. This hands-on position requires strong mechanical knowledge, effective problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize repairs in a busy manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair front-end loaders, tub grinders, log loaders, forklifts, packaging equipment, and other machinery.
  • Inspect equipment and identify damaged, defective, or excessively worn parts.
  • Remove, repair, replace, and install major equipment components.
  • Perform preventive and general maintenance, including oil changes, tire changes, and routine inspections.
  • Use service manuals, parts manuals, and diagnostic resources to identify repair solutions.
  • Use power tools, machine tools, and hand tools safely and correctly.
  • Order parts and maintain appropriate repair supplies.
  • Maintain accurate written and digital maintenance records.
  • Meet biweekly with the Yard Manager to review equipment maintenance and repair priorities.
  • Clearly communicate equipment status, repair timelines, and operational concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Keep tools and equipment in safe working condition in accordance with OSHA requirements.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and applicable motor vehicle repair shop regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with coworkers, drivers, yard personnel, and office staff.
  • Assist with training and supporting new team members.
  • Carry and use a two-way radio and company cell phone for communication during working hours.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment.
  • Strong diagnostic, mechanical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and understand service and parts manuals.
  • Ability to manage time, organize projects, and prioritize urgent repairs.
  • Confidence to make sound decisions and ask for assistance when needed.
  • Professional communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with diagnostic programs such as VisionLink or Diesel Laptop is a plus.

Schedule:

This is a full-time position. The schedule includes 10-hour shifts and requires weekend availability.
