Hiring for Forklift Mechanic/Test Technician

Do you enjoy diagnosing complex equipment problems, building prototypes, and want to be in a role that directly influences product design and development? Hyster-Yale Materials Handling is looking for a skilled Forklift Mechanic/Test Technician to support the development of electric forklifts from concept and into production.

This is not a typical repair shop position. You'll work alongside engineers and product development teams to build, modify, test, troubleshoot, and improve new forklift designs before they reach customers.

Individual compensation is based on various factors unique to each candidate, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

What You'll Do

• Diagnose and repair electric, hydraulic, and mechanical systems on prototype forklifts
• Fabricate prototype components, test fixtures, and test stands
• Support vehicle development from initial concept through production launch
• Troubleshoot new design issues and develop practical solutions
• Conduct testing, collect and analyze data, and communicate results
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and technicians to improve vehicle performance, quality, and reliability
• Support testing of batteries, motors, controls, sensors, and CAN-based vehicle systems
• Assist with welding, machining, fabrication, and prototype vehicle builds

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience repairing forklifts, heavy equipment, industrial machinery, or automotive systems
• Strong electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Experience with welding, fabrication, machining, or prototype work
• Ability to work independently and solve complex technical problems
• Positive attitude and desire to work in a collaborative engineering environment

Preferred Experience

• Electric vehicles, electric forklifts, or industrial battery systems
• AC/DC electrical diagnostics
• CAN systems and vehicle communications
• Data acquisition systems and test instrumentation
