Minimum Requirements
- 2–5+ years of experience in horticulture, gardening, landscaping, farming, garden maintenance, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team and take responsibility for successful project completion.
- Able to speak in English and Spanish.
- Strong knowledge of plants, soil, garden ecology, seasonal growing practices, pruning, propagation, and pest/disease management.
- At least one great example of how you helped someone else succeed.
- Able to work in very hot, very cold, rainy, and beautiful weather.
- Team-oriented with a positive, proactive, and “go-getter” attitude.
- Takes pride in workmanship and delivering excellent service and results.
- Shows up on time, prepared and ready to work.
- Demonstrates an strong desire to learn, improve, and take on new challenges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to teach, coach, and support less-experienced crew members.
- Must be 18 and legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving history.
- Able to pass a pre-employment drug test and, if required, a criminal background check.
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds and work on hands and knees or overhead while standing on the ground.
- Crew Leadership: Lead daily garden and horticulture crews in the successful completion of maintenance, installation, planting, and garden improvement projects.
- Horticulture & Garden Care: Oversee and perform high-quality garden maintenance, including planting, pruning, watering, fertilizing, soil improvement, propagation, pest and disease management, harvesting, and seasonal garden care.
- Team Coordination: Assign daily tasks, train and support crew members, monitor productivity, and ensure the crew has the materials, tools, and information needed to succeed.
- Landscape Maintenance: Maintain existing gardens through pruning, weeding, watering, feeding, mulching, soil management, pest and disease control, and seasonal preparation.
- Horticultural Support: Care for landscape plants on client properties. Help develop and maintain healthy, landscapes.
- Client Interaction: Communicate professionally with clients on-site and online, answer questions, explain horticultural practices, identify garden issues, and provide recommendations when appropriate.
- Problem Solving: Identify and do their best to resolve horticultural, garden, irrigation, soil, pest, plant health, and installation challenges in the field.
- Landscape Installation: Assist with installation and repair of landscape structure and beds, trellises, fencing, gates, basic irrigation systems, garden art and accessories.
- Plant Installation: Plant landscape perennials, shrubs and trees as per design or instruction from Landscape Architect or Foreman
- Equipment & Materials: Safely operate, maintain, load, and unload tools, equipment, soil, compost, plants, lumber, garden structures, and other materials.
- Customer Service: Build positive relationships with clients through clear, professional, knowledgeable, and authentic communication.
- Transportation: Maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving history with own vehicle or access such that there are no transportation issues.
- Safe Use of Company Vehicles: Safely drive Gardenology’s vehicle to transport staff, materials and plants.
- Physical Strength & Dexterity: Regularly carry approximately 40 pounds of equipment or materials and work for extended periods standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, and reaching overhead.
Performance & Production
- Lead crews in completing horticultural maintenance and garden installation projects efficiently and to Gardenology standards.
