POSITION: Horticulturist

REPORTS TO: Director of Agronomy/ Golf Course Superintendent
FLSA: Non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

An ideal candidate is highly motivated, team orientated and would bring a proactive approach to the position. In the near future, we will be starting multiple new landscape installations associated with facility renovations.
The Horticulturist is responsible for the installation, care and maintenance of plants and landscape features throughout the clubhouse grounds, parking lot and golf course for the enjoyment of golf and community members as well as their guests. The Horticulturist works closely with and reports to the Director of Agronomy and the Golf Course Superintendent.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and execute routine landscape maintenance operations such as blowing, watering, fertilizing, weeding, pruning, planting, transplanting, and mulching.
  • Manage seasonal golf course maintenance staff when allocated to assist with the landscape maintenance tasks or projects.
  • Monitor, identify and determine treatment for pest and diseases and apply pesticides when necessary.
  • Ability to diagnose plant nutrient deficiencies and treat as needed.
  • Coordinate seasonal change out and removal of plants.
  • Assist with landscape planning, budgeting, and ordering.
  • Relentless eye for detail and daily presentation.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism with members and guests.
QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS:
  • Formal degree or certificate in horticulture, landscape management or related field preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of work experience in the horticulture industry
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Frequent or occasional need to perform the following physical activities: grasping, finger dexterity, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting. Lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Standing and walking on various surfaces for an extended period of time
