ABM Electrical Power Services is seeking an experienced Infrared (IR) Electrician to support a dedicated electrical maintenance program at a large mission-critical campus in Santa Clara, California. This position is responsible for performing infrared inspections of electrical systems, identifying thermal anomalies, documenting findings, and supporting the planning and execution of corrective electrical repairs. The technician will work independently in the field, provide detailed reporting, and ensure electrical assets are maintained in a safe and reliable operating condition. The role is ideal for a journeyman-level electrician with strong electrical troubleshooting skills and experience using infrared thermography equipment. 

This position is assigned to a long-term customer contract and provides ongoing career opportunities within ABM Electrical Power Services. If project needs change, the technician may be transitioned into other Electrical Power Services operations.

Pay:$45.00. The pay listed is the base hourly rate + plus available paid overtime. The pay listed is the salary range for this position. Essential Functions

  • Perform infrared (IR) thermographic inspections on electrical distribution systems and equipment. 
  • Utilize thermal imaging cameras to identify hot spots, abnormal operating conditions, and potential equipment failures. 
  • Inspect electrical equipment including: 
  • Switchboards
  • Switchgear
  • Panelboards
  • Circuit breakers
  • Motor control equipment
  • Transformers
  • Power cables and connections
  • Electrical motors and associated systems 
  • Analyze infrared images and temperature data to determine equipment condition and recommend corrective actions. 
  • Document findings and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inspection reports. 
  • Develop repair recommendations for equipment exhibiting thermal anomalies or signs of deterioration. 
  • Perform minor electrical repairs and corrective maintenance activities when scheduled and authorized. 
  • Tighten, torque, clean, and repair electrical connections and components as needed to mitigate identified deficiencies. 
  • Support maintenance planning activities by identifying equipment requiring future repair or replacement. 
  • Maintain inspection records, photographs, and asset documentation in accordance with customer and ABM requirements.
  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and project updates to supervisors and customers.
  • Comply with all OSHA, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and site-specific safety requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as an electrician, electrical maintenance technician, electrical field service technician, or related electrical trade. 
  • Working knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and equipment.
  • Experience performing electrical inspections, troubleshooting, maintenance, or repair activities.
  • Ability to identify electrical deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Experience using infrared thermography equipment or thermal imaging technology. 
  • Ability to read and interpret:

  • Knowledge of: 
  • OSHA safety requirements
  • NFPA 70E electrical safe work practices
  • Arc-flash and shock protection principles
  • Lockout/Tagout procedures
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and electronic reporting systems.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear and accurate reports.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician certification, training, or equivalent field experience. 
  • Infrared Thermography Level I Certification preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience independently performing infrared inspections and thermal imaging analysis.

  • NFPA 70E certification or training. 
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
