Mechanic/Vehicle Technician

We are a busy fire truck service and repair facility conveniently located off the Northway in Clifton Park. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who excels at working independently while maintaining clear, professional communication with both customers and supervisors. Our Mechanics are responsible for diagnosing and timely completion of assigned repair, warranty, and preventative maintenance on fire trucks and emergency vehicles. You must have an in-depth understanding of all vehicle systems and components. You will be responsible for providing your own tools, maintaining shop owned equipment, assisting other mechanics and technicians, and facilitating a professional and competent environment.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues on fire trucks and emergency vehicles entering the shop.
Specialized Maintenance: Perform routine chassis services and specialized fire-specific tasks, including NFPA pump testing.
System Inspections: Conduct comprehensive, "bumper-to-bumper" inspections of engines, fire pumps, aerial devices, and electrical systems.
Digital Documentation: Accurately complete all service-related paperwork and parts tracking using the Fullbay service program.
Customer Training: Assist with vehicle deliveries and provide hands-on in-service training to fire department personnel on new apparatus.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Experience: Minimum 2–5 years of experience in heavy-duty diesel or emergency vehicle repair.
Licensing: Must hold a valid NYS Driver’s License and meet insurance underwriting standards. Must obtain a Class B CDL within 180 days of hire.
Must obtain a NYS Heavy Vehicle Inspector’s License within 120 days of hire.
Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence), Medium/Heavy Truck (T-Series), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certifications are highly preferred or must be obtained within 6–18 months of hire.
Skills: Proficiency with hand/power tools, reading schematics, and computer-based diagnostic programs.
Physical: Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and work in confined or elevated spaces.
