Ocean View Decks is looking for an experienced Journeyman Carpenter / Working Foreman to join our team.

We specialize in high-quality custom decks, exterior structures, railings, pergolas, waterproofing-related construction, framing, finish carpentry, and specialty outdoor projects throughout Ventura County.

This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for a skilled carpenter who can build, lead, problem-solve, read plans, and maintain a high standard of workmanship.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

Minimum 5 years of journeyman-level carpentry experience

Strong framing and finish carpentry skills
Ability to read and work from architectural and structural plans
Experience laying out and building stairs and stair stringers
Ability to make accurate and complex cuts using miter saws, circular saws, table saws, and other standard carpentry tools
Strong understanding of layout, elevations, dimensions, blocking, framing connections, and proper fastening
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to troubleshoot field conditions and find practical solutions
Ability to work independently without constant supervision
Ability to lead and work alongside a small construction crew
Professional communication skills when dealing with homeowners, inspectors, subcontractors, and other trades
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Reliable transportation
Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds and perform normal construction activities
Ability to pass required employment screening

Experience with any of the following is a major plus:

Fiberon
Deckorators
IPE and hardwood decking
Feeney cable railing
Glass railing systems
Pergolas
Waterproof deck systems
Exterior siding and trim
Concrete footings and foundations
Structural hardware and connectors
Residential remodeling
Building-code-compliant exterior construction

Having your own professional carpentry tools is also a plus.

Our projects are often more technical than a typical deck project. We work with structural drawings, engineering, building departments, specialty railing systems, waterproofing details, lighting, framing, and custom finish work. There is an opportunity to learn and work across several different trades.

Schedule

Full-time
Monday through Friday
Occasional Saturdays
Generally 8-hour shifts
Overtime may be available depending on project schedules
