Journeyman Sheet Metal Installer

Duties

Install, assemble, and secure sheet metal ductwork, ventilation systems, and HVAC equipment according to schematics, blueprints, and design specifications.
Conduct system start-ups, testing, and commissioning to ensure optimal performance of HVAC/R systems.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues using electrical diagnostics tools such as ohmmeters; repair or replace faulty components including motors, fans, valves, and controls.
Interpret schematics, HVAC design plans, plumbing diagrams, and building automation system layouts to execute precise installations.
Perform routine maintenance on HVAC systems including air conditioning units, boilers, refrigeration equipment (including ammonia refrigeration), and mechanical systems to maximize efficiency.
Utilize hand tools such as wrenches, welders, and power tools for installation and repair tasks; perform welding as needed for ductwork or equipment repairs.
Maintain detailed service reports, installation logs, and inspection records; communicate effectively with team members and clients regarding system status or issues.

Experience

Proven construction experience with a focus on HVAC system installation and mechanical systems repair.
Service technician background with hands-on experience in HVAC/R maintenance or property maintenance roles.
Familiarity with reading schematics, blueprints, electrical diagrams, and building automation systems is essential.
Strong mechanical knowledge including refrigeration (including ammonia systems), boiler operation, electrical diagnostics (using ohmmeters), and equipment troubleshooting.
Experience with HVAC system repair, installation of ductwork and ventilation components, plumbing connections, electrical wiring, and equipment repair is highly desirable.
Ability to operate hand tools safely; welding skills are a plus.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience with driver preferred for field service routes.
EPA certification for refrigerants required; knowledge of HVAC system maintenance standards is essential.
Mechanical or technical training from an accredited program or apprenticeship as a Journeyman Sheet Metal Installer is highly valued.
