Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Automotive Equipment Service Technician to lead one of our mobile service crews while helping support and improve the daily operations of our field service department. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for performing advanced equipment service work while leading a two-person mobile crew, mentoring technicians, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring customers receive exceptional service. The ideal candidate is an experienced technician who enjoys solving problems, leading by example, developing team members, communicating with customers, and taking ownership of projects while working closely with the entire Zia Equipment team.
This position will serve as a key member of our team and will play an important role in maintaining the quality, professionalism, and reputation that Zia Equipment is built on.
Responsibilities
Field Service & Technical Responsibilities
Lead and perform mobile installation, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automotive shop equipment
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and equipment-related issues
Perform vehicle lift inspections and safety evaluations
Complete repairs and installations according to manufacturer specifications and company standards
Assist with complex troubleshooting and technical issues
Complete accurate service documentation, inspection reports, and repair recommendations
Crew Leadership & Team Development
Lead and work alongside in a two-person mobile service crew
Train, mentor, and develop entry-level technicians
Lead by example through safe work practices, professionalism, and quality workmanship
Ensure daily tasks, checklists, and job responsibilities are completed accurately and efficiently
Help maintain consistency and quality standards across all service crews
Provide guidance and support to improve technician performance and development
Customer Relations & Business Representation
Serve as a professional representative of Zia Equipment at customer locations
Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment issues, repairs, recommendations, and completed work
Build and maintain strong customer relationships through honesty, professionalism, and reliability
Assist with preparing repair recommendations, estimates, and service documentation
Ensure customers receive a positive experience from initial contact through job completion
Company Operations & Service Department Support
Help oversee daily activities and workflow of the mobile service department
Assist with coordinating schedules, priorities, and service responsibilities
Ensure company vehicles, tools, and equipment are clean, organized, and properly maintained
Assist with inventory coordination and parts management
Ensure service crews complete required documentation, checklists, and daily responsibilities
Support continuous improvement of service processes and procedures
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in mechanical, industrial, automotive, heavy equipment, or related technical service fields preferred
Experience with automotive shop equipment, vehicle lifts, hydraulic systems, or similar equipment strongly preferred
Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and troubleshooting skills
Leadership, mentoring, or crew lead experience preferred
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to lead a team while maintaining a positive, professional work environment
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Ability to travel throughout New Mexico, southern Colorado, and eastern Arizona
Comfortable working at heights up to 25 feet
