Description

Lead Carpenter – Custom Residential & Specialty Construction

Established Los Angeles-area general contractor is looking for an experienced, hands-on Lead Carpenter to join a small construction team working on custom residential, restoration, renovation, and small commercial projects.

Our work is varied and detail-oriented. Projects can include structural and rough carpentry, finish work, restoration, custom installations, doors and windows, siding, and specialty construction.

This is a working Lead Carpenter position, not a supervisory-only role. You will be expected to work with the tools while also helping organize and lead other crew members when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform both rough and finish carpentry
  • Framing, layout, blocking, siding, doors, windows, trim, cabinetry, and specialty installations
  • Read and work from construction plans and details
  • Lay out and sequence work efficiently
  • Lead small crews and assign daily tasks when required
  • Run smaller scopes of work independently
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and other trades in the field
  • Identify material needs in advance
  • Maintain high standards for quality and workmanship
  • Recognize field conflicts, missing information, and unforeseen conditions
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional work areas
  • Communicate regularly with the Construction Manager regarding progress, materials, and upcoming needs
  • Help guide and train less experienced crew members
What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 4+ years of solid carpentry experience
  • Strong capability in both rough and finish carpentry
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings
  • Comfortable with layout and running work independently
  • Good field problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
  • Ability to lead others while remaining productive and hands-on
  • Dependable, organized, and able to communicate clearly
  • Professional attitude around clients, subcontractors, and other trades
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Own basic hand tools required for the trade
Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform normal construction activities including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, bending, carrying materials, and working indoors and outdoors in active construction environments.

About the Work

We are a small, hands-on construction company focused on quality rather than production work.

Many of our projects involve existing conditions, custom details, restoration, specialty assemblies, and situations that require a carpenter who can think through a problem, plan the work, and execute it properly.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of efficiency, and is comfortable taking responsibility for an assigned scope from start to finish.

To Apply

Please reply with:

  • Name and phone number
  • General area where you live

  • Experience leading other carpenters or running small scopes of work
  • A few photos of recent work, if available

Qualified applicants will be contacted directly with additional information about the company and position.
