Lead Field Technician

Position Summary
The Lead Field Technician performs skilled residential remodeling work while providing day-to-day direction to Rock Island's in-house field crew. This position works alongside crew members to complete a wide variety of construction tasks, ranging from finish carpentry and cabinet installation to punch work, site protection, material handling, and jobsite support.

The Lead Field Technician receives daily assignments from the Project Manager and helps ensure assigned work is completed safely, efficiently, and to Rock Island's quality standards. This position does not schedule projects or direct overall project sequencing but is responsible for leading the crew in completing the work assigned.

Essential Responsibilities
Lead the Crew

  • Provide day-to-day direction for assigned crew members.
  • Demonstrate proper work methods and safe practices.
  • Help organize the crew's work at each assigned location.
  • Ensure assigned tasks are completed efficiently and correctly.
  • Answer questions from crew members in the field.
  • Help train less experienced employees.
  • Lead by example through productivity, craftsmanship, and professionalism.

Skilled Construction Work
Perform work including:
  • Cabinet installation
  • Finish trim
  • Base and casing
  • Interior doors
  • Door hardware
  • Bathroom accessories
  • Shelving
  • Blocking
  • Minor framing
  • Minor drywall repair
  • Caulking
  • Punch list completion
  • Appliance installation
  • Miscellaneous finish carpentry

Jobsite Support
Perform and coordinate work such as:
  • Dust containment
  • Floor protection
  • Jobsite cleanliness
  • Material staging
  • Material deliveries
  • Offloading deliveries
  • Tool organization
  • Protection of completed work
  • Assistance to subcontractors as directed
  • Final cleaning and punch support

Quality Control
  • Inspect completed work before notifying the Project Manager.
  • Maintain Rock Island craftsmanship standards.
  • Correct deficiencies before leaving the jobsite whenever practical.
  • Report conditions that require Project Manager attention.
  • Protect finished materials from damage.

Communication
  • Receive work assignments from the Project Manager.
  • Keep the Project Manager informed of progress.
  • Notify the Project Manager of missing materials or unexpected conditions.
  • Communicate with homeowners professionally while on site.
  • Coordinate with the Foreman when requested.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of residential remodeling experience preferred.
  • Strong finish carpentry skills.
  • Ability to read construction drawings.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to safely lift 75 pounds.
