Maintenance & Construction Assistant

Description

Hands-On Handyman Assistant Laborer Wanted (willing to train)

Hiring for a reliable, fit worker for assisting with late fall through spring projects at our lodge, ~5hrs drive from Anchorage or Fairbanks. We’re a remote (yet road-accessible) national park lodge, so you get a real wilderness setting and quiet without being cut off from supplies or the outside world.

This is hard, but satisfying work. You’ll be indoors and outdoors in changing Alaska weather, working on a variety of projects, and living in a calm, beautiful setting surrounded by mountains and wildlife with the option to borrow a snowmachine. For the right person it’s a chance to build a skill set that’s hard to get anywhere else. Access to Alaska's biggest outdoor playground - snowmachine, ski, fish, hike after work / days off.

Duration: Up to 6 months, with possible extension

Pay: Weekly rate $550 - $750 DOE
Room & Board: Included - dry cabin with showers in lodge, basic breakfast and lunch supplies and hot dinner provided (soda and snacks not included)

What You’ll Be Doing / Learning

Helping out with general daily tasks to maintain the lodge and outbuildings.
Duties will include: snow removal (shovels and/or plow), moving firewood & 40lb bags of pellets, and assisting with other construction, renovation, and maintenance projects across:
Carpentry and framing (stairs, decks, porches, doors)
Plumbing and Electrical - remodel and maintenance work and repairs
Landscaping, cleanup, material handling, and other projects as needed.

Skills You Can Learn Here

We value people who want to grow and are willing to work. Depending on the season and the projects, you may gain hands-on experience in off-grid power systems and living, woodworking, basic plumbing and electrical, snow removal, and general handyman work. If you’re curious and willing to learn, there’s plenty of room to do it. We need someone who can work with others and reliably independently with instruction/direction.

Equipment

Equipment experience is helpful but not required; we’ll train the right person.Skid steer (forks, buckets, man basket, auger), small dozer, 410 backhoe, and telehandler with man basket.

Tools & Gear

We have most common tools and ear plugs onsite. If you have your own tools you prefer, bring them, plus work gloves, boots, eye protection, rain and cold-weather gear.

Who We’re Looking For

We're a remote location so good-decision-making skills are essential.
Ability to pass a background check as we have guests on-site.
Physically fit: This is labor-intensive work that involves lifting, climbing, bending and ability to work all day indoors or outdoors.
Transportation: Preferred (you're responsible for keeping your vehicle in good running condition); willing to cover shuttle to lodge
Reliable and self-motivated: You can work independently and also as part of a small team.
Able to follow directions: Clear communication and following instructions are important in this job.
Willing to learn: Experience is a plus, but a strong work ethic and interest in learning count for more.
Respectful: Of guests, shared spaces, coworkers, and lodge operations.

Work Rules

No drugs, cannabis, or alcohol during work hours or while on shift. Workers must report fit for duty each day and be able to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment safely. We keep a clean, safe worksite and expect everyone to pull their weight.
