The scenic live event production carpenter and decorators builds, install, and dismantle, paints, set dresses and decorates custom stages, set pieces, and temporary structures for concerts, corporate shows, and theatrical performances.
Role Overview
Primary Goal: Transform drawings and designer concepts into safe, functional, and visually striking physical environments.
Work Environment: Split between a fabrication workshop/warehouse and on-site workshops and event venues
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication: Cut, weld, and assemble wood, metal, plastics, and foam into platforms, flats, and props. Paintinf, decoration,
Installation and Strike: Execute quick and safe load-ins and load-outs of heavy scenic elements at event venues.
Blueprint Reading: Interpret architectural renderings, technical drawings, and cut lists accurately.
Maintenance: Perform routine repairs, touch-ups, and structural safety checks on touring or stored production assets.
Collaboration: Coordinate under the direction of the Head Foreman and alongside technical directors, lighting crews, and audio-visual teams
Expedient: Must be a dedicated and efficient worker This is not an environment for slow paced individuals.
Core Qualifications
Technical Skills: Expert proficiency with hand and power tools, woodworking, and basic rigging or metal fabrication.
Physical Stamina: Carpenters, Capability to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, and work safely at elevated heights.
Experience: Generally requires minimum 1 to 4 years of professional carpentry or decorator experience, preferably within live entertainment, corporate staging, or touring environments.
Certifications: Certifications, rigging, lift machinery, OSHA are a bonus
Tools: Must have core carpentry tools. some basic equipment table and chop saws on site , but other tools are your own Decorators will usually their own specialty tools, but otherwise tools and supplies are provided
