Marine Painter
Marine Painter
Description
Matthew and Williams Boatworks is a wooden boat repair shop located on the Lake Washington Ship Canal in Seattle. We are looking for a new crew member who shares our mission of preserving wooden boats through skilled craftsmanship.
We are currently seeking an experienced marine painter ($25-35/hour). Our ideal candidate has a strong professional background in marine painting and varnish work, with experience on wooden boats considered a significant plus. A keen eye for detail, strong finish-work standards, and the ability to work independently are essential.
In this role, you would handle all aspects of boat painting and varnish work, including surface preparation, brightwork, hull and topside finishes, and specialty marine coatings. Typical projects at our shop range from supporting our shipwrights following repairs, to full boat refinishing, to varnish work on high-end boat furnishings.
Joining our shop means joining a community centered on the rich maritime heritage in the Pacific Northwest. We work on a variety of vessels, from classic yachts to working boats, which means every project is a unique chance to apply your craft. Our shop sits on the water with dock space for the boats we work on, as well as dedicated paint room facilities. Our team provides the full scope of vessel needs including shipwright work, electrical, and welding/fabrication.
This position can start part-time, with the opportunity to move to full-time as fit and skills develop.
Prior professional experience in marine painting and varnish work is required. Experience with wooden boats is strongly preferred.
To apply, please respond to this ad by email with:
-A brief introduction and description of your experience
-A resume
-A portfolio or photos of past work
Responses that do not include the three above listed items will be ignored.
