Thomas Marine, an established business (50+ years) in the Marine Metal Fabrication business located in Point Loma is looking to hire 1 more MID-LEVEL welder/fabricator.
A Thomas Marine Fabricator/Welder will construct, install, and repair metal yacht structures and components out of stainless steel (often polished to #8) or aluminum. We fabricate quite a bit of handrails (stainless and bronze) and ornamental features for high end homes / public art, along with specialized prototype or developmental items for NWIC / U.S. Navy.
Apart from the “essential duties and responsibilities” a Fabricator/Welder should have the ability to:
- Multitask, be highly organized and be able to reasonably interface with a boat owner/captain/engineer
- Have reliable transportation and have a driver license
- Comprehension skills to follow safety regulations, instruction and interpreting fabrication drawings
- Verbal communication, social and interpersonal skills, ability to speak English
- Ability to follow directions from yacht owners
- Understanding of Fabrication / Installation drawings
Verifiable TIG welding experience. You will be asked to perform a quick TIG welding exam as part of the interview that should take no longer than 10 minutes.
Minimum of 2-5 years experience in metal fabrication/welding stainless and aluminum.
Regular use of a variety of common metal fab hand-held and motorized fab tools and machinery is preferred
Standing for extending periods of time is common, as is welding outdoors on a yacht
Lifting of up to 50 pounds is required
Valid driver's license and be commercially insurable!
Have pride in their work & get along with others (this is important to all of our crew)
If you like boats, performing “boat yoga” on motoryachts, superyachts, racing sailboats, cruisers, occasional military / USCG projects, then you will love this job! We are the opposite of production welding.
PAY
Pay is DOE and ranges from $25-$35 to start.
We begin work at 0730 and end at 1600hrs. There is often voluntary weekend overtime available. 5 days paid vacation starts after 90 days. Paid Holidays. Employees are paid via direct deposit every Wednesday. Simple IRA available.
