Join the Physical Plant team at Mat-Su College, a community campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage, and help maintain a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This Crafts & Trades 2 position performs a wide variety of skilled maintenance, repair, and operational duties across campus facilities and grounds. Responsibilities include preventive and corrective maintenance of building systems and equipment, assisting with construction and renovation projects, supporting HVAC and boiler operations, operating heavy equipment, maintaining inventory and materials, and ensuring campus facilities remain safe and well-maintained year-round. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects while contributing directly to the daily operations and long-term success of the college.
To thrive in this role, the successful candidate will possess broad maintenance and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently and effectively prioritize multiple assignments. They should have experience performing repairs and preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and campus infrastructure, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Successful team members are dependable, adaptable, and comfortable operating a variety of tools, equipment, and vehicles in changing conditions.
Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues are essential. The ideal candidate will communicate effectively with coworkers, contractors, and campus stakeholders. Experience with HVAC systems, boilers, commercial facility maintenance, construction projects, inventory management, or heavy equipment operation is highly desirable. Depending on operational needs, successful candidates may be required to obtain or maintain specialized licenses and certifications, such as a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), boiler operator license, ASE automotive and medium/heavy truck certifications, inspector certifications, State of Alaska Fireworker permits, Certificate of Fitness for Asbestos Abatement, or other trade-specific credentials.
Minimum Qualifications:
Journeyman level or equivalent certification in a specialized field, including but not limited to HVAC, carpentry, plumbing or electrical; or a minimum of ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
An unrestricted Alaska driver’s license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria is required.

This position is located on the Matanuska-Susitna College campus in Palmer, Alaska. This is a full-time, non-exempt Local 6070 staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
