Wildfire Weed-Wash Unit Operator

Description

Oregon Weed Wash runs wildfire decontamination units at federal incidents across the western states — Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. We're building our standing operator roster in every state where we run units, so we're taking applications now around Reno/Tahoe to have crews ready as the season runs.

You run a weed-wash unit down in the safe zone near incident command — beside the base, not on the fire itself. 12-hour shifts.

THE PAY

Truck and one operator: $600/day, and we find your second.
No truck at all: $400/day, and we pair you with a truck at dispatch.
Want to work with someone you know? You can be dispatched together as a crew — just each submit your own application with the same truck VIN, and we'll keep you paired.

You're paid directly by OWW as a 1099 contractor, on your own check.

THE PAY TIMELINE

There is no advance pay. The government reimburses us on its own cycle, so your first payment lands about 5–6 weeks after you start, then every two weeks after that until you're paid in full.

THE SCHEDULE
12-hour shifts, 14 days on / 2 off. Assignments run across Regions 1–6 (11 western states), usually within a 200–300 mile radius of you. You can decline any dispatch.

THE TRUCK SPEC

The unit is about 1,750 lb and rides in the bed, hand-loaded, tailgate down — no backing a trailer. To carry it in the bed you need a 3/4-ton pickup or bigger (bed roughly 40"+ between the wheel wells and 60"+ long). Have a smaller truck or a different vehicle? You can pull the unit on a trailer instead.

ALSO REQUIRED

  • 18+ — the driver needs a valid license; a second operator riding along just needs to be 18
  • Registration, and insurance scheduling that exact VIN
  • Wrench-capable — basic hands-on repair, nobody expects a mechanic
  • Both crew speak English
